Workforce Development is a multifaceted approach which addresses the range of factors impacting on the ability of workers to function effectively. Workforce Development involves the sustained interaction of citizens, community leaders, employers, and education providers that results in community economic well-being and, through employment opportunities, an improved quality of life for individuals and families.
The community college has moved into positions of prominence in economic and workforce development activities across the nation. Employers have always looked to colleges as a source of trained workers, including graduates of both vocational and general education programs.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY

Workforce Development at Long Beach City College exists in a dynamic new global economy where workforce demands of the public and private sector evolve and change at a rapid pace. The Workforce Development office at LBCC takes a proactive role in economic development by first identifying the needs of the community.
For the first time, women and minorities will outnumber white male entrants into the labor market. Many of these workers will come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and many will need special training and services to succeed in the workplace. The goal of Workforce Development at LBCC is to provide responsive, flexible and cost-effective workforce development services to employers and citizens of Long Beach and neighboring cities.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

Workforce Development services at LBCC consist of training programs that prepare our students for today's workforce. The programs serve adult learners, as well as post-secondary students, by preparing them for employment in a variety of areas that require well-developed technical skills.
Additional workforce development services are focused on providing skills maintenance and enhancement through continuing education to those already employed, as well as retraining for displaced workers. We also provide education services and programs to welfare recipients, moving individuals from poverty to economic independence and self-sufficiency.
